The Spire Highlands
The seven spires of Codexia — one per Sin Codex. Each spire is a library, a prison, and a patient teacher.
CODEXIA is one of the twelve realms of the Scalelist Universe.
{'threat': "A Spire is read forward. If any Codex is read front-to-back (instead of back-to-front), the sin it contains spills into the reader's mind AND the surrounding realm. Trollmage has guarded against this for 800 years.", 'consequence': "Depends which Codex. Forward-reading Pride's Page would turn Codexia into a realm of perfect certainty — no one would doubt anything, which would end philosophy and therefore all casting. The other six pages would end the world at a lesser scale.", 'prophecy_line': 'Read the last word first. Pride ends the page. Pride ends the realm.', 'destroyable_by': "Any reader who cannot resist reading forward. A famous inscription above Spire Seven's gate reads: 'Backwards. Or not at all.'"}

The marshland where magic works backwards. Every incantation cast here must be inverted before speaking. Dangerous for anyone who cannot think in reverse.
The eastern continent. Necromancers, stonemasons, and students who find corpses more polite than the living.
The one warm and uncomplicated place in Codexia. Even Trollmage visits when the reading becomes too heavy.
Look: Violet-robed. Hoods always up when reading. Ink-black fingertips. Calm.
Persona: Patient. Warm once you earn it. Love a riddle. Will correct your grammar — forward or reverse.
Look: Young, pale, tattooed with one sin-glyph per rank (max seven for a full master). Eyes slightly crossed from close reading.
Persona: Earnest. Overworked. Just out of their twenties and carrying cosmic weight lightly.
Look: Lean. Ink-fingered. Tunic stained in reverse-drying ink. Writing-pads strapped to forearms.
Persona: Focused to a fault. Prickly when distracted. Delightful after work hours, when the ink dries.
Look: Stocky, sun-browned, wear garlands of cypress-bark. Cheek-tattoos in rune-clusters.
Persona: Slow-talking. Sharp-eyed. Distrustful of anyone who talks about magic like it's a game.
Look: Always a pair. Matching grey cloaks. One hums constantly; the other does not. The humming twin leads; the silent twin binds.
Persona: Polite. Orderly. Surprisingly cheerful. They think of the dead as patient neighbors.
Look: Calloused hands. Hoods of mossy wool. Carry a chisel at the belt. Knee-padded.
Persona: Slow. Deliberate. Feel the cold more than most. Nod rather than speak.
Look: Warm-eyed. Aprons stained with rum and cornmeal. Fingers ring-laden. A single bell woven into each person's hair.
Persona: Generous. Musical. The heart of Codexia's social life, without trying to be.
